Good Tidings

“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings”

By E Jardinel

This is about the birth of Jesus.  Joseph and Mary from Galilee went out of Nazareth City to Judea, into the City of David, Called Bethlehem to be taxed. But, the time came Mary had to deliver her baby.  Because there was no room in the inn, Mary delivered her baby in a manger.

In the same country, there were shepherds abiding in the field watching their flock by night.  The angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid.  The angel said:

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  (Luke 2:10)

I. FEAR NOT

THE ANGEL’S MESSAGE seems a surprise to them.  The angel had a great message, to bring the good news.  He had good intention which is for them to be joyful.

REASONS FOR FEAR.  They did not know what was happening.  They did not know who was bringing the message.  They did not know what his intention was. They did not know what his message was.

PEOPLE TODAY HAVE MANY FEARS.  They do not know what is happening in the world.  We hear of wars, epidemic, poverty, killings.  Many families are experiencing hardships, poverty, conflicts, sickness, and death.  Many are living in this world in loneliness, without the right purpose and direction.

II.  GOD’S MESSAGE is the GOOD NEWS of great joy which shall be to all people.

Many people seem afraid of hearing the Good News because they do not know God’s intention for their lives.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.(Jeremiah 29:11)

Everyone needs to hear the Good News because all men are sinners and in need of salvation.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;(Romans 3:23)

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?(Mark 8:36)

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;(Hebrews 2:3)

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS, HE WAS BURIED, BUT HE ROSE AGAIN.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;(1 Corinthians 15:3)

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1 Corinthians 15:4)

THE BASIS OF THE GOOD NEWS IS THE BLOOD OF JESUS.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (Romans 5:8-9)

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)

THE SCOPE OF THE GOOD NEWS IS ALL MEN.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, (Titus 2:11)

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (Hebrews 2:9)

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (1 Timothy 2:1-6)

THE RESULT OF THE GOOD NEWS IS THE JOY OF SALVATION BY FAITH

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. (Luke 15:7)

It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. (Luke 15:32)
